never too much Sesame Street

Happy birthday to the Street.

I’ve been watching SS since I was an itty bitty kid and then again with my sister who is 9 years younger than me and now once again w/ my toddler.  Grover and Cookie Monster were my favorites and I loved to try to say (though not to spell) Snuffleupigus.  Madster LOVES Elmo who seems to be the star these days.

Yesterday SS versions of songs were floating through my head: (sorry to repeat this) “Looking for gloves in all the wrong places.” was my particular favorite.

Okay, so maybe that was one of my own.

The humor is dry and deadpan and I think helped to develop my own quirkiness.  My mom was influential too.  When we would go shopping she would sing ‘Tuuuna, tuuuna, tuna, tuna, tuna’ to the tune of Tonight, from West Side story.

I just spent 2 hours this morning watching You Tube videos of all my old faves from the Street and prayed that this institution will be with us a few years longer so my children will know and love and learn as I did.

Love you!

I absolutely love watching Sesame Street with my nieces because it reminds me of my mom watching it with me as a kid. I loved Big Bird and Grover and Snuffleupigus (however you spell it!) Thanks for this post – brought back some great memories!
